With sales up 44% to €44 million in 2019, the documentary sector is France’s second biggest export genre, which demonstrates the relevance and popularity of the genre beyond our borders. The sector remains, however, one in which there is great competition, and with dedicated markets particularly affected by the COVID crisis, it requires special support.  

That is why TV France international created the first ever edition of Le Rendez-Vous Docs, an online market dedicated to documentary content, held on Thursday March 18, 2021, and supported by the CNC, the MEAE and Procirep.

269 participants attended this special day dedicated to the very best of French documentary content, and were able to enjoy 3 Super Highlights and 18 project pitching sessions.

These sessions were filmed at Le Schack, a Parisian brasserie, and were created in addition to our screening room with its 184 programs. Our live feed attracted 53 buyers during a day that remained joyful despite the difficult context.  

Each presentation session was followed by a Q&A session, during which your enthusiasm and involvement were overwhelming. These sessions enabled all participants to witness the spontaneity that defined Le Rendez-Vous Docs. In one Q&A session a buyer even expressed their interest in a program live on air.

Despite a difficult context that is clearly challenging for us all, March 18 proved the resilience and determination of the audiovisual sector and its players.
