Two French productions won top prizes at the 49th annual International Emmy Awards, which took place Monday, November 22 at an in-person ceremony in New York.

The series “Call My Agent!” (Dix pour cent) – Season 4 won an International Emmy for Best Comedy. The show was launched in 2015 by France Televisions, based on an idea by former agent Dominique Besnehard. It has become an international hit on Netflix, charting the ups and downs of the lives of actors and their agents in Paris. (….)

Eleonore Dailly, co-founder of Mixte producer Autopilot Entertainment, tells TBI deputy editor Mark Layton about the advantages of producing period shows in France and the global appetite for local language content.

Producing premium scripted period shows traditionally comes with a high price tag attached, but for those based or shooting in Europe, it seems that there are definite advantages. Eleonore Dailly, who co-founded LA and Paris-based Autopilot Entertainment with co-producing partner Edouard de Lachomett in 2015, tells TBI that location can be everything. In summarising the findings of its latest report, the European Audiovisual Observatory also estimates the annual volume of the production of TV animation in Europe to be around 220 titles (TV movies or TV series seasons), 5,200 episodes and 830 hours. Furthermore, European TV animation co-productions account for 36% of all TV animation hours produced, a much higher share than for live TV fiction.
