Will Thorne, Variety, 17/05/2021,

“(…) TV France International, an organization which promotes French series and creativity, is attending the event (LA Virtual Screenings) for the first time and helping to present nine series, including animated offering Grosha & Mr B and premium drama Gloria, across a range of genres. Sarah Hemar, the company’s Executive Director, says the relatively new event provides an excellent opportunity to increase the visibility of French content in more American and Latin American-centric markets. ‘I’m just curious how it goes because it’s a first,” Hemar says. “We are quite strong in South America with animation, but we want to do better in fiction and documentaries.’” READ MORE…

“The TV shows that reveal the real France”

Benjamin Ramm, BBC Culture, 06/05/2021,

French TV Shows

French TV has never been more popular internationally – but the biggest shows at home reflect a conflicted nation, anxious about its place in the world, writes Benjamin Ramm. During the long, lonely evenings of lockdown, the world turned to French television. Series such as Call My Agent!, The Bureau, and Lupin were streamed globally and acclaimed for their flair and originality. An industry once derided for producing derivative melodrama – and always in the shadow of French cinema – finally seems to have found its own voice. Just as ‘Nordic Noir’ captured the world’s imagination at the start of this century, the past decade has seen the evolution of television’s so-called ‘new French Wave’.” READ MORE…

Call My Agent! is coming to the UK: Lydia Leonard and Jack Davenport lead adaptation from W1A creator”

Katie Rosseinsky, Standard Evening, 06/05/2021,

Zut alors! Casting for the UK remake of Netflix hit Call My Agent! has been unveiled before filming for the series gets underway this month. The original French series follows the staff at fictional Parisian talent agency ASK as they attempt to placate their very demanding clients (played by bona fide French stars who are commendably willing to send themselves up) while navigating their own chaotic personal lives and keeping the company afloat. Though the fourth season of the original Call My Agent! (known as Dix Pour Cent in France) was expected to be the show’s final outing, a fifth series and spin-off film were confirmed earlier this year.” READ MORE…
