Interview with Guillaume Soutter, President of PGS HK Ltd, PGS Entertainment, about ALVINNN!!! et les Chipmunks (ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks), which has been nominated for an Export Awards 2021 in the animation category.

The Interview

Guillaume Soutter

TV France: ALVINNN is now 63 years old! It’s been going for a long time.

Guillaume Soutter: Alvin was created in 1958 by Ross Bagdasarian Senior. Since its launch, the show has seen massive success in terms of music (16 Grammys, 16 gold and platinum albums), movies (four movies with box office takings of more than $2 billion) and TV (eight seasons of the 1980’s series and seven of the more recent one, with over 100 countries broadcasting the show). It’s an amazing success story for one of the last remaining privately owned franchises in family entertainment. Alvin is owned by the Bagdasarian family to this day.

TV France: How did you come up with the idea of adapting ALVINNN as an animation series?

Guillaume Soutter: Bagdasarian Production started developing the show with Technicolor Animation Production a while back. When we saw the press announcement about it, Philippe and I just freaked out! We were Chipmunks fans as kids and still are now. We flew over to LA to meet everybody, and here we are almost 10 years later.

TV France: David Seville and his children travel the world thanks to you…

When you have a great brand and fantastic production values, you can make magic!

Guillaume Soutter: Alvin is aired literally all across the world and, according to Mediametrie, is the most watched show of the decade in Europe. Ahead of any studio-owned brand! I don’t think that has ever happened in the history of cartoons. It’s really cool!

TV France: What does the future hold for the happy group?

Guillaume Soutter: There are new episodes being produced every day, and it seems kids across the world can’t get enough of it. So lot of fun adventures! Unfortunately for Dave…
